Upcoming Films Worth Knowing About

Post by Epistemophobia » Sun Feb 28, 2010 9:32 pm

Help me keep updated, because I'm terrible at doing it myself.

Discuss news, opening dates and festival screenings of new release films.

Not going to be good. I like the idea of this thread because I'm always late on finding out about movies.

Trip posted a list the other day with a bunch of great stuff scheduled for 2010. Although it's unlikely many of us will see much of it in 2010!

This looks particularly great;

The Essence of Killing (Jerzy Skolimowski)

Finally, Poland, France and Ireland will meet on screen.

Wong Kar-Wai's The Grand Master is marked as 2010 on IMDB, so there's that, maybe.

Probably not. Maybe a Hong Kong release this year if we're lucky. It only just started filming a month or so ago.

As long as a Fincher film is realesed this year, I'm satisfied.

Festival stuff that sounds interesting:

The Imperialists are Still Alive (American Rivette? What?)
The Animal Kingdom (Not necessarily going to be good, but Aussie crime whatever)
A Spot of Bother (French black comedy?)
Blue Valentine (Gosling + Michelle Williams)
New Low (Funny?)
Get Low (Bill Murray)
Street Days (Uhh... Georgian)
The Freebie (Mrs. Duplass)
Hesher and High School (JGL vs. Adrien Brody as tweakers)
Tucker & Dale vs. Evil (Horror comedy, or terrible)
Exit Through the Gift Shop (Street artist Banksy reworks terrible film by street artist friend?)
Cyrus - (Duplass, Keener, John C. Reilly)

I'm looking forward to Hesher.

Also I forgot but there is a Terrorist Satire coming out called Four Lions that looks promising.

I read that it's pretty uneven. They're usually right. But JGL is supposedly good as expected, so I'll probably just suffer through the rest.

That Four Lions one looks bad, but who knows. I've glanced at some good, some tepid reviews.

Four Lions is from Chris "Brass Eye" Morris, so I have some faith in it.
Plus an associate of mine who went to Sundance raved about it.

Um, yes. The whole stoner comedy genre is getting really tired, even if he brings a more amusing feel to them. He was great at what he was doing. Pineapple Express was merely decent.

Gosling and Michele Williams means I'm there already, but it sounds a bit too much like (500) Days of Summer. Which was my favourite film of last year, so I can't really complain, but still.
What really baffles me is how Gosling goes 3 years without a movie. Was that by choice?

True.
Did he mention why he didn't see the second part? Maybe she dies, and he left, as opposed to the second part not airing.
