Re: Lists Lists Lists
Though I lurk every day I've not posted in a while, but it's time for me to once again shamelessly promote my write-up on my favorite films of the previous year.

As always, mostly American mainstream stuff, and not the best writing out there, but I'm content and it is what it is. And it has the pretties banners I've been able to do so far.

Counted, and I've seen only 67. So, I decided to pick three from the top 25 to watch today:
City Lights
The Searchers
McCabe & Mrs. Miller

While I'm not crazy about the cinematic equivalent of a black hole making the top spot, I've always been a big fan of T2/The Train, so that helps balance things out some in the end.Spengo wrote:July

Best film about a painter?

Not only does it do a lot of clever things visually, telling a plausible story through characters/symbolism/tableaux taken from his art, but it has a real feel for painting – demonstrating undercoats and layers, the process.

Yeah, it's definitely a great and unique portrait of an artist. Though the reproductions of his paintings look a bit garish at times. What can you do, though, I suppose?Shieldmaiden wrote:Best film about a painter?

Three great documentaries on painters from great directors that I forgot:
Dong (Jia Zhangke, 2006)
The Artist and the City (Manoel de Oliveira, 1956)
Lucebert, Time and Farewell (Johan van der Keuken, 1994)

Not sure about a top five, but Ruiz' Klimt and Stelling's Rembrand Fecit 1667 are definitely up there.

Everything around me is evaporating. My whole life, my memories, my imagination and its contents, my personality - it's all evaporating. I continuously feel that I was someone else, that I felt something else, that I thought something else. What I'm attending here is a show with another set. And the show I'm attending is myself.
