good news for the batsy fanboys like miself.

Nolan wants to end it with a third film, like really end it. His brother is writing it, not Goyer.

He's working on an adaptation of Watership Down, or so I hear.

If it's as bleak, sad and wonderfully messy as his other films, it will be the film of the decade.

But that animated version is pretty much as good as it gets already.

Quentin Tarantino announced another installment of Kill Bill, a romantic comedy, an all-out uncomprimising western (think Unforgiven, QT style) and last but not least a prequel to Inglourious Basterds.

He says he will then retire around 60.

David Lynch will make new things as well.

This should be new enough to get 10 Epis excited!!!!!!!!!!

For a man who famously makes big splashes at Cannes you can most definitely count on this being on the roster.

I'm not terribly interested in the film, but the poster is rather funky:

It's a Universal release. They're already having another banner Flop-worthy year with The Wolfman and Green Zone.

I don't know who Scott Pilgrim is either, but for Universal's sake, he better have some B.O. muscle or we'll be seeing plenty more Fast & Furious sequels.

No, nothing.

I do see where Vivre Sa Vie has an April release -- I assume this is a Criterion? Of course, we know about "assuming," but who else would release it?

I'm still looking for something on The Thorn in the Heart, as well. These movies have been released long enough that they should be on DVD by now. :x

Not sure if it's been mentioned in here and it hasn't raised enough $$ yet to start production but Paul Thomas Anderson's The Master seems like an interesting project with Philip Seymour Hoffman playing L. Ron Hubbard. I guess it's so expensive because most of it takes place on a boat...

I assume this isn't going to be feature length. I just looked at his imdb page, which says he does a voice on The Cleveland Show. :-/

It's an original character that people have just assumed is jesting at Hubbard.

I keep reading this or variations of it:
The Master is the story of a charismatic intellectual who hatches a faith-based organization that begins to catch on in America in 1952 called The Cause. The core dynamic centers on the relationship between The Master and Freddie Sutton, an aimless twenty-something drifter and alcoholic who eventually becomes the leader’s loyal lieutenant. As the faith begins to gain a fervent following, Freddie finds himself questioning the belief system he has embraced, and his mentor.

It's a 30 minute commercial. Slight with superficially pretty shots, but if you really look at them it reveals their shallowness. This is the film everyone said Tom Ford made. 3 different shots back to back of people sitting next to each other while the sun goes down right behind their heads. Because the first 2 weren't enough? I guess not. Not for an Abercrombie commercial.

lol.

Was I ever refuting it isn't one? No. It's sponsored by Absolut Vodka, Absolut Vodka is present in the film, so = commercial. Shit, most American films are commercials, product placement is out rampant, Jonze just isn’t hiding the fact.

Demolition Man is my favourite commercial.

also, I didn't even know who Tom Ford is, imdb told me he directed that perfume commercial. You made a funny.

That's the word I read in the worst review I glanced over!

Get a better word. Just because it references popular culture doesn't mean that the way that the references are used are 'hip'. In fact, I think the comedy is rather skillful. Not everybody hits it out of the park on their first try, but there's a lot of interesting stuff going on in just the trailer, and it's those flashes that need to be teased out into fully fledged brilliance.

I've been thinking a lot lately about how hyper-critical people are of new, young filmmakers. Part of it is that their earlier material is less sophisticated and more accessible so more people get exposed to it, discuss it, and are generally favorable (although none of that amazing extreme ambivalence is found, either in a person or between a number of people), but as a whole it doesn't stand out as anything amazing. Most of the great filmmakers could be described this way as well in their early days. I think we should never forget to analyze the strengths of young artists and, while we shouldn't lie about the quality of a film, we should certainly be more forgiving of a young artists' faults when discussing their potential instead of discarding them because of a few faults which can easily be shed. If they referenced Fassbinder like in Tristram Shandy you would have been in love. Get over it! It's a reference! They're all the same, in the end, but it's how they're used that matters.

k

It's just a trailer. An extremely hip one. You cannot deny it. Positively or negatively, it's hip. I have no opinion on the film from that trailer, just indifference.
