 Re: Sport
Hard to think of any quarterback who could play so well for so long and get so much flack.
Hard to think of many quarterbacks of late who had to start their rookie years and develop into good quarterbacks (which is a disaster in terms of building bad habits, including getting beaten to hell due to making poor decisions and being on bad teams).
To be disappointed in Smith, a legitimate NFL starting QB in the most sought-after position in football, is somewhat crazy. 1st round picks at QB tend to be out of the league after 3 years more often than they are still quality starters.

Considering the NFC East looking wide open and Seattle appearing mortal Cowboys fans have to be feeling unlucky. Meanwhile the Packers just lost Lacy for who knows how long. I would be amused if the Falcons of all teams made a run this year. And the Cardinals are looking good as long as Palmer stays upright.

I've always had this immense hatred for Kaepernick that is kind of unexplainable. I usually don't like to take joy in people's failures, but seeing him benched for Gabbert does put a smile on my face.
On another note, it can't just be me that thinks the NFL product in general this year is the worst its been in awhile. A few great teams, but the overwhelming majority of the league sucks and the amount of injuries is just crazy. And then of course there's the officiating.
Ah well, just another title for the Patriots. What a shock.

Let's plan out the Cubs offeseason shall we? Price is in reach. Greinke will end up elsewhere. Also I would love some bull pen depth and another SS. Edwards will probably get called up earlier next season than people think. Zimmerman would be a good consolation prize.

Arrieta/Lester/Price/Ross/Hendricks, and figure out what to do with Edwards later. Boom.

I don't think Price is going to Chicago.
There are rumors Chris Sale is available in a trade, and if that's the case, he's the best available pitcher
But as a Red Sox fan, I'd rather Dombrowski go hard after Greinke on a 4-year deal than offer the White Sox pretty much all their top prospects

Astronomical. Price likes Maddon and the Cubs have money, so he'll have to turn down a big offer to stay away.

 Re: Sport
Do the Cubs even really need another top-flight starter? They were a middle of the pack offensive team that relied a bit too much on the long ball, and their pitching staff was top 3 in baseball. I'd imagine going after a few more average/on-base guys at positions of need would make a bigger difference.
Alex Gordon over Jorge Soler would be a pretty big upgrade, for instance
Imagine how much the Cubs would benefit from the NL adding the DH, with Schwarber moving there? They should be campaigning hard for that, lol

 Re: Sport
The Cubs are going to improve a lot on offense. So many rookies in the lineup who'll get better. And more coming (Contreras and Torres). And the staff was smoke and mirrors behind Arrieta and Lester. The Cubs should not spend a cent on offense, outside of an economy buy at center field to kill a year before Almora/McKinney arrive.

Boom. I keep forgetting that they have even more young guys in the pipeline. You really think that Ross is worth Castro? I still think Edwards is going to be a starter in the long run.

Also I hate the DH but Schwarber would be a great one. Chris Sale is a pipe dream. The White Sox would demand the whole farm for him.

Ed Hochuli officiated games featuring New England - The Patriots are 3-4.
Ed Hochuli officiated games featuring Denver - The Broncos are 7-0.
