Of course! Happy to hear I've sparked an obsession.

And his Geography of Poverty is very much a work of reportage, pairing his great photographs with geo-tagged locations, population and economic statistics, and quotes from people living in these areas.

The actual picture taking is such a small part of what I do. Most of the time, I’m walking, waiting, talking, listening. I’ve kept a notebook for a long time. It’s no journal — I write down the things that are in front of me, which helps me go deeper. It might seem peripheral, but I’m not wasting time: when a picture shows up, I’m ready, and I just try to get it done with as little fuss as possible.

An NPR article discussing the parallels and differences between the lives and works of Hiroshi Hamaya (who I posted previously) and Kansuke Yamamoto, and how their styles -- Hamaya's documentary work and Yamamoto's surreal photomanipulation -- are representative of the two major trends in Japanese photography after the war. The article also includes several stunning examples of both of their work.
