Stellaaaaaaaaaaaaa! My first in 6 years. Beats the pants off of Heineken by virtue of being completely inoffensive.

Deschutes' Cinder Cone Red Ale. A bit sour and citrusy, sort of medicinal aftertaste in a good bitter way. Smells great and it was on sale, so it's a winner.

Having a rare Friday night off led me to a six pack of PBR. Being sober while working a crappy part time job is just too hard.

PS: Of course this was my 9,000th post here. Fitting.

Magic Hat's Dream Machine - okay I guess
Hoegaarden - I would be okay if this were the last beer on earth; tastes like Bruges
Alaskan Amber - nice and drinkable, but I wouldn't be able to pick it out of a line-up.
Ballast Point's Sea Monster Imperial Stout - gotdayum bless you based lord Cthulhu fhtagn.

Ninkasi's Vanilla Oatis is a very smooth oatmeal stout. The vanilla makes it interesting.

That happens to be one of the only stouts I have returned to. Vanilla overtones, chocolate undertones - a true happy to be alive beer.

Jeez, I let the guy at the liquor store talk me into buying a half-gallon of Rogue's American Amber Ale, which is pretty good for a red ale, but I've finished the whole damn thing. I'm sure I'll regret it in the morning.

Green Flash's Double Stout is very smooth and very chocolatey and relatively high in ABV. And I have finished a 4-pack, mwahahaha. (Am drunk).

I've somehow lost 3 pounds, and drinking all 4 of those last night was a terrible idea.

It was the 2 straight months of work that did it. Walking, I believe, barely burns anything.

walking burns about 200 extra calories per hour, so you would really have to be on your feet a lot to feel the difference

Just being alive and being an 180 pound or so man burns 1500-2000 calories a day though, a fact I continually use to my not freakishly skinny like Genie benefit.

What I tried/bought yesterday (brewery/beer):

Terrapin - So Fresh & So Green, Green (2014 Simcoe IPA)
New Belgium/Perennial Artisan Ales - Salted Belgian Chocolate Stout
River Dog - Port Royal Sound Sour
Ichtegem - Grand Cru (Flanders Red)
Fairhope - (Take the) Causeway IPA
Straight to Ale - Bourbon Barrel Aged Laika (Russian Imperial Stout)
Straight to Ale - Cabernet Barrel Aged Laika
Dupont - Saison Dupont Cuvee Dry Hopping 2014
Stone - Enjoy By 12-26-14 (DIPA)
Tilquin - Oude (Gueuze Tilquin)² à L'ancienne (Lambic)
Evil Twin - Sour Bikini (Sour pale)

Had the Saison DuPont and the Enjoy By last night. The saison was excellent, I can see why DuPont's is a textbook example of the style (although I've yet to have the non-dry hopped version). Enjoy By is the same as always, so good, but not quite as nuts about it as I was. So Fresh & So Green, Green was a better IPA by a little.

As far as top stouts I've tried (off the top of my head), Firestone Walker's Parabola (2014 vintage) was very good and very intense. Laika and it's variations from Straight to Ale are very good. I've never had some of the "whalez" like Surly's Darkness or Three Floyd's Dark Lord. Bell's Cherry Stout (never had the BB version) is an incredible beer as well as Black Metal from Jester King.

Where are you now?

Edit: And of course U.S. beer distro is so wonky and ridiculous, some of these I've had lately may be available in your area and others won't unless you get into the expensive hobby of beer trading via Fed Ex.

i'm in the uk. a lot of good local ales here as well, obviously. good lagers are harder to come by at a reasonable price, so i usually just end up drinking red stripe, so hipster.

I'm drinking Rolling Rock right now (my favorite macro lager) cause it's cheap and alcohol. I crave alcohol daily and usually indulge even if it is just one beer. No withdrawal though.

Peroni isn't bad. I've been drinking on a tight budget lately, so it's Rolling Rock all the way. I unabashedly love that stuff.

Haven't really been a serious scotch drinker long enough yet to have such specific tastes. I like stuff that goes down smooth.

Aberlour 12 is a safe bet then, it's sweet and smooth.

I prefer peaty/smoky scotches myself, but they're definitely riskier if you don't already know you like rich, intense flavors like that. Talisker 10 would be my pick if you wanted something more on that end without being a total smoke bomb. It's salty and smoky and delicious.

Used to crush this stuff because it's not terrible and is cheap, last time I purchased it was $32 a half gallon or "handle". At this point I've probably had too much of it to ever want it again, but I haven't been drinking much liquor anyway. Last I had was a large pour (neat of course) of Glenfiddich 12 on my birthday (Nov. 29). It's was the best option that bar had, and it was free, so who am I to bitch about that?
