Crimson Peak is good.

Smalls Hell or High Water is a slow movie save for certain parts. I was surprised at how much I liked it.

Need to see High Rise. I am a Ben Wheatley fan and have seen everything from him save for his last two. Free Fire and Lost City of Z both came to my area so I have to go watch both before they leave

Super no. It's supposed to be a 9-6 job. But we're all pulling 10-11 hour days for quarterlies. I had been at work for four hours by the time she showed up. It's too bad. She's new and young and a ridiculous freight train of insecurities. But if you're doing not the ridiculous shitty hours to which we have been consigned, you're probably going to be fired.

I can sniff out irony like a blood hound, being the founder of the New Sincerity and all, and America collapsed underneath how much of a joke it fundamentally is, largely off the backs of overprivilidged mixed race whites who got caught in the set up as to what is ultimately the punchline that they are, in fact, the targets of the "new discrimination"*

*complete and utter bullshit

Not to say that I am cool with any discrimination but it is nice to see "free speech" get put on trial as such. It is very interesting who happens to be the pariahs in all of this, like, I can't shake how manufactured this drama all feels. Fucking pewdiepie

I always thought that American concept of free speech was far too simple and almost seemed if the idea has been twisted when I thought it was meant to protect vulnerable people from being punished for speaking out against a higher power. Of course it was meant to shield the kinds of people who wrote the constitution from problems, not the poor and slaves.

Well said, it's a noble intention bent by Animal Farm logic. It gives the powerful, and the likes of Jontron and Pewdiepie and Milo Yiannopofuck's influence can be defined as such, too much of a platform to... misinterpret free speech. Free speech is harmful when abused and we reached a tipping point where open thought got infected with a cancerous rhetoric which empowered all of the wrong people. Or, free speech is effectively putting these thoughts on display and we are currently in the process of draining this rhetorical swamp. It is in contention at this point. Ideas need to be dissected in order to be erradicated... there is a light at the end of this shawshank redemption shit tunnel phase which is currently going down

PMJT, now that is a huge problem

It was pretty smart in how it... processed the allegory. I felt it was a touch smarter, yet less entertaining, than Snowpiercer. Jeeze those are similar stories. I do love how cinema is getting more brave with graphic novel adaptations and that we have a great selection of highly regarded adaptations. Time to go watch A History of Violence and Road to Perdition again

I slightly prefer High Rise to Snowpiercer. However Snowpiercer is a bit more subtitle in its ideas and concepts. Funny enough both star actors who were in The Avengers.

A History of Violence is excellent. Road To Perdition is near great.

Speaking of The Avengers, I just watched that for the first time last year (late to teh party, I know), and is it just me, or is anyone else annoyed that it's still the best reviewed MCU movie to date (according to RT)? I mean, it wasn't a bad movie or anything, but it was still just such a... generic superhero movie. There was very little creativity to it, and the climax was just so bloated and bland, with such a phony-looking, obviously greenscreened Manhattan, that the whole thing left my mind very quickly after it was over. It's ironic that the first Guardians managed to be both more irreverent, but also had more substance at the same time, but that's the miracle of that movie, the MCU entry that IMO, should probably be the best-reviewed one of the bunch, but oh well.

No, but I do think that Guardians Vol. 1 and Winter Soldier are far better. I have not seen Guardians Vol. 2 and Ant Man yet so I cannot fully rate all of the MCU yet.

Avengers is still one of my favorite MCU movies. Just because of the buildup before and the way the team got together and seeing all their personalities clash. Which is what's always been great about the Avengers since they're so dysfunctional that they're never supposed to work as a team but somehow they do.
